Method

  1. 1Sauté the finely chopped red onion until soft and slightly caramelized, then add the garlic for aromatic depth.
  2. 2Add the fresh tomatoes and cook them down slowly into a rich, rustic sauce.
  3. 3Stir in the tomato paste, cooking it in the pan to remove any bitterness, and add a small amount of sugar to balance the acidity; set the finished sauce aside.
  4. 4Brown the medium ground beef in the same pan, seasoning it with Royal Nova Company Bar-b-quispice.
  5. 5Add the packet of French's Sloppy Joe mix, then stir the tomato sauce back in and mix thoroughly into a rich, hearty filling.
  6. 6Lightly toast the Compliments buns, fill them generously with the sloppy Joe mixture, and finish in a 350°F oven for 4–5 minutes until the buns crisp slightly and the filling heats through.
